118 E. Palmer St   Indianapolis, IN  46225

The Historic Vollrath Tavern has been in operation at its original location since it opened its doors for the first time in 1926. During prohibition, The Vollrath served as a speakeasy until Congress repealed the 18th amendment with the 21st amendment, rendering the Volstead Act unconstitutional in December of 1933. Folks like John Dillinger to name just one were known to frequent the Vollrath on a regular basis, drinking and playing cards in the basement until the wee hours of the morning.

Now host to Indianapolis‘ finest local and nationally-touring artists , the Vollrath Tavern has become one of Indy’s most respected underground live music venues, proud to feature original music several nights a week.

The Vollrath Tavern is located on the very near-south side of Downtown Indianapolis at the corner of Talbott and Palmer - 3 blocks east of Meridian St. - in the historic “Sacred Heart Catholic Church” neighborhood.

Walking into the Vollrath is like stepping back in time into an old,  large "Chicago / Brooklyn style" neighborhood tavern. It's original,  ornate wood-and-mirror bar are still in place, with the entire room authentic to it's origin - down to the old slate-tile  and restored original wood plank floors.

Come soak up the history while enjoying the great drink pricing, live music, and nostalgia.
